Prevention

Prevention: Anzhen Hospital insists on the working policy of giving top priority to prevention. The Department of Epidemiology and the Department of Community have been established to assure that this is remains a constant emphasis for the hospital. These departments have undertaken to monitor cardiovascular disease in rural and urban areas of Beijing. They also have been conducting different prevention programs and administering treatment of frequently-encountered cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, coronary artery disease, and cerebral stroke. In 1984, the hospital joined the WHO¡¯s ¡°International Collaboration of CVD Monitoring¡± (the WHO MONICA Project), which lasted a total of 20 years. The program was designed to monitor up to 5.8 million people all over the country to find first-hand data on CVD incidence, mortality, and risk factors. The data, after being collected and analyzed, has provided a reliable basis for China to formulate better national health policies. All of these efforts, of which Anzhen Hospital has a major role, have contributed greatly to controlling cardiovascular disease in China, thus gaining praise from around the world.
